Internship Abroad in Ireland

Three Weeks in Dublin: Solveig Gains Valuable Experience During Her Internship Abroad 🇮🇪

In May, I had the wonderful opportunity to take part in a three-week internship abroad in Ireland, organized through an Erasmus project by BBS Wildeshausen – and one thing is certain: it was an unforgettable time!
We set off on May 10th from Hamburg Airport. After just under two hours, we landed in Dublin – our home for the next three weeks. The five of us stayed with a host mother in Walkinstown, a bit outside the city center. We were warmly welcomed and not only given a cozy home for our stay, but also plenty of helpful tips about excursions, shopping options, and more – a real stroke of luck!

Of course, it wasn’t just about traveling – it was also about gaining new insights into the working world. I had the chance to work in a law firm right in the heart of Dublin. Things got exciting right from day one: among other things, we were able to attend a hearing at the Supreme Court – Ireland’s highest court. Over the following weeks, we were given increasingly independent tasks tailored to our interests and strengths.

Despite work, there was still plenty of time to explore the country. With free tickets to Dublin Castle or a tour through Kilmainham Gaol – even during working hours, we occasionally got to enjoy some culture. And in our free time, we discovered even more: from cliff walks in Howth and hiking trails in Ticknock Forest to the Poolbeg Lighthouse and Dublin’s city center – Ireland has so much to offer, both in terms of landscape and culture, and is absolutely worth a visit.

A special highlight to end the trip: a day excursion with all participants to the Cliffs of Moher and Galway. A journey across the country – and every kilometer was worth it!
It was definitely three intense, exciting, and educational weeks that I won’t forget anytime soon. Not only did I have the chance to improve my English, but I also gained diverse insights into life and work in Ireland. What especially stayed with me was the relaxed and warm-hearted nature of the Irish people.
